With the recent release of Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4), the PS3 sales have increased by over 64,000 units this week. That is a substantial amount of product considering the PS3 was one of the least bought items in Japan. Having only sold a total of 75,311 units, this goes to show how much influence a game truly has on the console it is released upon.
Overall in the software market, the top thirty sales were not too surprising. With the Nintendo DS leading the way with 30 titles, nine for the Wii coming in second, five for the PSP, three for the PS 3, and only one for the Xbox 360. These stats aren’t too surprising considering Nintendo is major in places like Japan whereas Sony is major in the US along with the Xbox 360.
We will probably notice an increase in PS3 sales for another week or two after this week since there are some pretty big games out now for the PS3. Since the initial rush for the PS3 is over, I would go out on a limb and say probably around 20,000 more units will be sold at least over the rest of the quarter.
